Isolated showers are possible 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Lehigh Valley, on what is forecast to be a chilly day followed by a cold night.
A light west wind increasing to 10-15 mph during the morning could gust as high as 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service forecast. The chance of precipitation is 20%.
At Lehigh Valley International Airport, temperatures are forecast to peak around 48 Wednesday, which is below the normal high for March 26 of 55. The overnight low into Thursday is forecast near 27, with a northwest wind 5-10 mph. The low normally should run around 33.
Daytime temperatures rise into the 50s and low 60s for Thursday and Friday, respectively, with nighttime lows remaining above freezing as a warming trend takes hold.
At the airport outside Allentown, there is a 30% chance for rain Friday night, beginning about 11 p.m. and continuing until 2 a.m. Skies are expected to clear for Saturday, when a partial solar eclipse will occur at sunrise.
Saturday’s high is forecast near 76 under partly sunny skies, which will make for pleasant weather for those fishing on Pennsylvania’s Mentored Youth Trout Day. A 40% chance of rain showers is forecast Saturday night into Sunday and again after 2 p.m. Sunday.
The low overnight into Sunday is forecast around 55, ahead of another daytime high in the 70s on Sunday, according to the airport forecast.
“It will still be quite warm on Sunday, though not as warm as Saturday due to cloudy skies and scattered showers moving into the region in the afternoon,” the weather service says in a regional forecast discussion.
Showers are likely Sunday night and possibly into early Tuesday morning.
The forecast discussion sums up the weather pattern, noting that a weak cold front moves through the region early Wednesday morning, before high pressure moves in from the west and then shifts offshore on Friday.
“High pressure remains over the western Atlantic as low pressure slowly approaches from the west over the weekend,” the discussion states. “This system will finally cross the region Monday through Monday night. High pressure returns thereafter.”
